Srinagar, July 08 (KNO): The government on Wednesday re-opened the parks and gardens in Jammu and Kashmir for the general public after the gap of nearly four months. The gardens and parks were closed in wake of the deadly COVID-19 outbreak in the Union Territory, which claimed over 140 lives and infected nearly 9,000 people so far. All the public parks and gardens including the Mughal Gardens like Nishat, Shalimar and others were re-opened for the general public today. Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the famous gardens like Nishat, Botanical garden and others witnessed a low rush of visitors. They further said that the authorities were screening the visitors before allowing them to enter the gardens. Besides, the sanitizers were also made available for the visitors at the gardens. Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday decided to re-open all the public parks and gardens across the Union Territory from Wednesday amid strict Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) "We have decided to re-open all the parks and gardens across Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow. People are however, supposed to follow SoPs in spirit that include wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing," Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan had said—(KNO)
